Mostly self taught but experienced network administrator with well over 30 years under my belt with a whole lot of late nights, trial and error and learning as I go. I cut my teeth with Novell system during my first job after I earned an Honorable Discharge out of the Navy. Coming out as an ABH or Aircraft Handler working on the flight deck of an Aircraft carrier didn’t translate too well in the civilian world so I figured I should look for a new profession.
The head of the company at the time was also the onsite network administrator so since I gained an interest in Tech, I soon became his assistant helping out while learning about our inhouse LAN. Besides fixing minor computer issues, keeping inventory and ordering equipment. It wasn’t until I was assigned the task of figuring out Remote Networking, now mind you, this was back in the early 90s when a lot of the options if any were at the levels we have today, 56k modems were the hot thing back then so it was slow.. but when I finally got it all figured out, I had been hooked on Tech ever since.
Fast forward to today I have now done everything from computer/software troubleshooting, setting up from scratch multiple Windows Networks up to Server 2022, running cables, setting up multiple fellow employees during covid to work remotely, as well as currently maintaining 2 servers for the two companies I work for full time and a side job.
Committed to continuous learning I have recently started a few personal project of setting up Linux Web Servers with the full LAMP stack and MariaDB and learning how to host personal websites with the servers I have built.
Since leaving my first job which was a company of about 200 people back in 1997 when I left I had since moved to San Diego where I now work in smaller environment of 10-20 employees which is where I am more comfortable these days.
