SOULCAPTOR.MEDIA
starting off as mostly ways to share my photography with friends and family but has since culminated into many other interest that I have managed to stumbled into over the years mainly due to necessity as you will note looking over this site.
WHAST IN A NAME:
Soulcaptor Photography itself came about from many ancient cultural beliefs that a photo or video captures the soul of the individual.
As a photographer who has been allowed the fortunate position of capturing a split second in time of ones life has defiantly become a great honor. Just as those earlier photographers came upon these tribal people throughout their journey's to document, it had become customary to take an extra photo of the individual therefore returning their soul back to them, I share that same practice.
If that little tidbit in cultural beliefs didn’t get your attention then how about this? I love the challenge of trying to capture the action of events and people and freezing that moment in time. I dig on people and things that are broken, battered and bruised but never beaten held together by duct tape, bungee cords, wire ties and band-aids. Sprinkle in a little rust and blood with spots of black and blue for color and we are set…
Mostly working in the background, lacking the commitment it takes to be a wedding photographer the enthusiasm to be a portrait photographer and the patience to be a landscape photographer always waiting for that golden hour. On a personal level with my own photography, I don’t find much challenge in taking photos of any subject in static positions under preset lighting. I thrive off of the dynamics of various sports.
Ok back to the soulcaptor thing. Since my family history does claim Choctaw blood, I can say that I have always loved the imaginative thought process behind those very ancient beliefs that I speak of . Does my tribe in particular believe a photo or video captures the soul? well honestly I don’t know.
Do I believe my camera captures at least a small piece of the soul…
Of course I do…. don’t you??
