Never really considered myself as a right brainer.. but more of a left brainer.. much more into the technicalities of things and lacking the artistic part… but every now and then I get lucky and they both come together.
I have been doing design work for well over 30 years now which started back in the 80s while going to a Votec school learning about aircraft and how to earn an A&P licence.
Although I was a bit of a mess up, and my instructor at the time had little to no faith in me, he gave us a project to “hand draft” a selected part from the aircraft. I ended up with one of the hardest parts to draw out with a whole lot of holes and 2 weird planes to work off of… well by everyones surprise, I actually aced the project which helped motivate me to start thinking of what I wanted to do for a living.
After leaving the Navy, I took up Mechanical drafting which led me to my career as a design drafter, drawing things within the Temperature control systems for Denver Zoo and Untied Artist Theaters throughout the US, ductwork systems for The San Diego Natural History Museum, Pipeline systems that run through the streets of San Diego and my favorite is creating precision 3D parts for assemblies then watching them come come to life and being used in production of various systems throughout the world.
